Cinteti & ceteti [Sk. cetati to appear, perceive, & cinta- yati to think, cit (see citta2) in two forms: (a) Act,<br />

base with nasal infix cint (cp. muñc, yuñj, siñc, etc.); (b) Med. base (denom.) with gu*a cet (cp. moc, yoj,<br />

sec, etc, & the analogous formations of chid, chind, ched under chindati) to *(s)qait: see citta1, with which<br />

<strong>The</strong> relation in the use of the two forms is that cet is the older & less understood form, since it is usually<br />

expld by cint, whereas cint is never expld by cet & therefore appears to be the more frequent & familiar<br />

form. Meaning: (a) (intr.) to think, to reflect, to be of opinion, Grouped with (phu&&ho) vedeti, ceteti,<br />

sañj!n!ti he has the feeling, the awareness (of the feeling), the consciousness S iv.68. Its seat is freq.<br />

mentioned with manas! (in the heart), viz. manas! di&&higat!ni cintayanto Sn 834; na p!pa' manas! pi<br />

cetaye Pv ii.97; J i.279; PvA 13 (he thought it over), ib. (eva' c. you think so); Sdhp 289 ("disa' c. id.)<br />
