Bh! (f.) [cp. Vedic bh! & bh!1 nt.] light, splendour; given as name of a jewel at an extremely doubtful<br />

passage J v.317, 318, where T. reads "vara ta' bhañ ñam icchasi," & C. expls.: "bh! ti ratanass' eta'<br />

n!ma'." <strong>The</strong> v. l. for bhañña' is bhuñja'; the passage may be corrupt from "varatu bhava' yam icchasi."<br />

Bh!ku&ika (adj.) [fr. bhaku&i] knitting the eyebrows, frowning, only in redupl. cpd. bh!ku&ika -- bh!ku&iko<br />

Vism 26 (id.). -- f. bh!ku&ik! a frown, frowning, superciliousness, def. at Vism 26 as "padh!na --<br />

parimathitabh!va -- dassanena bh!ku&i [read bhaku&i] -- kara*a' mukha -- sankoco ti vutta' hoti." It occurs<br />

in stock phrase bh!ku&ik! bh!ku&iya' kuhan! kuh!yan! in def. of kuhan! at Vbh 352=Vism 23, 25 (cp. Nd1<br />

225), and at Nd2 342 D. See also VbhA 482 (bh!ku&ikara*a' s"lam ass! ti bh!ku&iko). <strong>The</strong> form bh!ku&iya'<br />

(nt.) is originally the same as bh!ku&ik!, only differentiated in C. -- style. <strong>The</strong> def. at Vism 26 is<br />

"bh!ku&ikassa bh!vo bh!ku&iya'." <strong>The</strong> v. l. ibid. is bh!ku&it!. -- bh!ku&ika' karoti to make a frowning face,<br />

to act superciliously Vism 105 (as a quality of one "dosa -- carita").<br />
