3-4 metri di profondità. Si stima
che annualmente il lago rilasci quasi
3.000 tonnellate di metano;
• la perdita di biodiversità animale
e vegetale nelle zone umide, con
numerose specie della lista rossa
scomparse o danneggiate, la “crisi”
del canneto (die back, arretramento
documentato anche dal lato lago, a
causa di degrado dell’habitat per vari
motivi tra cui la mancata gestione o
gli interventi inadeguati di taglio in
acqua, l’attacco da parte di specie
animali invasive).
Piani e misure di tutela ambientale degli
enti preposti (Piani di bacino e distretto,
Piano regionale di tutela delle acque,
Programmi provinciali) hanno previsto
dalla fine degli anni ’90 notevoli
investimenti ed interventi per la difesa
ambientale del lago.
Le misure sulla depurazione civile/
industriale (trattamento spinto e riuso
acque reflue) e sulla zootecnia (riconversione,
compostaggio effluenti), i vincoli
per l’agricoltura (il bacino è dichiarato
area sensibile e Zona vulnerabile da
nitrati e fitofarmaci) prevedono milioni
di investimenti e contributi pubblici, in
parte già utilizzati.
Molto maggiori gli investimenti utilizzati
per la sistemazione idraulica del reticolo
drenante e le reti irrigue di provenienza
esterna anche finalizzate a sostenere
il livello idrico del lago (700 milioni di
euro per il sistema Montedoglio-Chiascio-Altotevere-Valdichiana-Trasimeno).
I costi ambientali dello squilibrio
ecologico connessi ai servizi ecosistemici
sono altrettanto elevati se cumulati
nel tempo.
Tra quelli di natura diretta misurabili
si possono elencare i seguenti:
• lotta biologica ai chironomidi (trattamento
di settori del lago con bacillus
Thuringensis Var. Israelensis e trappole a
terra “Tofolamps”);
• the loss of animal and vegetable biodiversity
in the swampy areas, with
numerous species from the red list
lost or damaged, the reed ‘crisis’
(probable die-back, reduction documented
at the lakeside too, due to
the decline of the habitat for various
reasons, among which lack of management
or inadequate intervention
in cutting in water, and attack by
invasive animal species).
The plans and measures to protect the
environment proposed by the authorities,
(Basin and District plan, Regional
Water Protection Plan, local projects)
since the end of the 90’s have led to
notable investment and intervention to
protect the lake environment.
The measures brought in for treatment
of civil and industrial water (tertiary
treatment and reuse of wastewater)
and for livestock breeding (reconversion,
composting of effluents), the
regulations for farmers ( the basin has
been declared a sensitive area, and one
vulnerable to nitrates and pesticides)
have cost millions in investment and
public contributions, and these have
already partly been used.
Even greater has been the investment
in the water system of the draining network
and the irrigation network coming
from outside the region, aimed at maintaining
the water level of the lake (700
million euros for the Montedoglio-
Chiascio -Altotevere-Valdichiana-Trasimeno
system).
The environmental cost of the ecological
imbalance for the ecosystem services
are just as high, if seen as accumulating
over time.
Costs which are directly measurable
include:
• the biological fight against chironomids
(treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis
var. israelensi in certain sections of
the lake, and Tofo lamp land traps;
