agency of the United Nations in 1946. Its headquarters<br />

is located in Geneva, Switzerland. ILO<br />

has been concerned with humanitarian, political,<br />

economic and peace issues. It works both to<br />

promote economic growth in harmony with social<br />

objectives and to stress technical assistance in<br />

labour and social matters, particularly in the<br />

developing countries. Its tourism sector office has<br />

produced many studies dealing with tourism<br />

workforce development and conditions worldwide.<br />

Organisations representing public and/or private<br />

sector interests at international level are known as<br />

international tourism organisations. Examples include<br />

industry associations �such as the International<br />

Hotel and Restaurant Association),<br />

government-derived agencies �World Tourism<br />

Organization) and combined public and private<br />

sector organisations �Pacific Asia Travel Association).<br />

The term is sometimes confined to<br />

entities attempting to be global in their scope, to<br />

differentiate them from supranational organisations.<br />
