sacred journey
In common usage `sacred journey' could be
considered as another term for a pilgrimage,
but a strict theological explanation demonstrates
that there is a difference between them. Pilgrimage
in the modern world is usually partly a religious
journey and partly touristic. The sacred journey
has no secular or touristic characteristics; it is
devoted to religious reasons for travelling or,
simply, it has only a religious component. In the
anthropology of tourism, the modern practice of
tourism has sometimes been described as a sacred
journey because certain characteristics of its
journeys are analogous with the stage of rites of
passage, especially the alternation of profane and
sacred time and the liminal stage in the ritual
process.
safari
BORIS VUKONIC Â ,CROATIA
A safari is a fully equipped, guided and catered
journey or expedition for hunting, exploration or
scientific investigation, originally associated with
East Africa. Increasingly, packaged tours to eastern
and southern Africa as well as areas of natural
resource elsewhere are given this name. The
primary purpose of the modern safari is seldom
hunting, but rather the viewing and photographing
of wildlife.
safety
S
Tourists might be exposed to various safety hazards
if the infrastructure and supporting services in a
destination are not up to acceptable standards.
High safety levels are achieved if the quality of
food, sanitation, building materials, tourist
activities, transportation facilities and health
services are all strictly incorporated into the
tourism industry.
sales force management
YOEL MANSFELD, ISRAEL
The effort of recruiting, training, motivating,
tracking, and evaluating individuals who are selling
or representing a product or service for an
organisation or company constitutes the parameters
of sales force management. It can be
managed by product line, geographic territory or
customer. Management efforts focus on maximising
revenues, minimising expenses related to
selling, and building customer and employee
loyalty.
