Regarding the generation of feedback we tried to realize our ambitious aim to provide
high-quality feedback. For us one way to provide such feedback is to supply the learner with
all possible error sources. In the fi rst instance the feedback is determined by the level of
correction applied. In any case the system does not return the correct answer until the learner
either fi nds the solution or asks the system to uncover it (this option is available at any time).
The next step will be to use Java Session Tracking Features and System Adaptivity to get even
closer to the learner.
The dynamic generation results in different exercises for all users. At each try the user is
confronted with new exercises. If (s)he chooses the option to practice a word (s)he might work
with all kinds of sentences, collocations, … the system has on it’s disposal; at the same time
data and order of exercises or choices (in multiple-choice exercises) are changed. This means
that (s)he will not have to repeat the same sentences all the time. Along the way (s)he amplifi es
his/her vocabulary and learns about the way the specifi c word is used.
Another important point was to reuse the innovative features which were already realized
within the ELDIT project. Any word used within a multiple-choice test, translation or gapfi
lling exercise is linked to the dictionary. By clicking on it the learner gets connected to the
dictionary which supports him with the information stored in the corresponding entry. Also any
word entered by the user is morphologically checked; the system is capable to detect two and
in some cases even more errors.
8. Inclusion in ELDIT
In this fi rst step we have only tried to examine the technological possibilities of our system.
Didactic considerations will be the next step of our work. However, we will outline some of the
ideas about how and where to include the automatically generated exercises within the ELDIT
program.
Since the exercises are generated out of the basic system data, each piece of dictionary
information could be trained immediately on the place where it is presented to the user. The
ability of the system to reuse similar information on different places and the parameterization
