Voraussetzungen für eine adäquate Umsetzung des
plurizentrischen Ansatzes im DaF-Unterricht

Abstract
The pluricentric concept has become obligatory within the tests of the Austrian Language Diploma for
German (ÖSD) as well as within the trinational Certifi cate of German (ZD). This is the reason why the
pluricentric concept is integrated in teaching material leading to the ZD. Nevertheless both the authors of
teaching material and the teachers themselves still have problems trying to adapt the linguistic concept
in practice. Teacher trainings at the Austria Institutes show that the main reason for the problems can
probably be seen in the fact that even German teachers, no matter where they are from, are merely
conscious of the national varieties. Even though they have personal experiences with them and therefore
certain knowledge, there is generally only a vague understanding of the linguistic concept behind it. But
such understanding would be the condition for a consistent and adequate didactic adaptation.
