A crucial issue that challenges the researched diabetics’ group is
how to prioritize the care of the self in spite of the fact that in the social
practices, that sustain their life experience, care is something that
is given or received. In this way, turning the care towards someone’s
self means breaking the family exchange pattern, thus threatening the
principle of moral obligation that the family represents. Therefore,
this suggests a picture in which relationships are being broken.
