A variação linguística ainda é vista, inclusive por professores de português, como erro, embora seja um fenômeno
antigo e esteja presente em todos os estratos sociais. Nesse contexto, insere-se o apagamento do fonema /r/
no final dos verbos no infinitivo, como em no lugar de “vou fazer”. Por isso, este trabalho teve como
objetivo investigar esse fenômeno na fala de 18 crianças do 1º, 3º e 5º ano do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola
privada de Novo Hamburgo, 9 de cada sexo e 6 por ano escolar, para verificar se, de fato, existe uma tendência
para esse apagamento. Buscou-se também verificar se as variáveis sociais (sexo e escolaridade) e as linguísticas
(contexto precedente e contexto seguinte) influenciam a fala das crianças. Para a coleta de dados, solicitou-se às
crianças que contassem uma história a partir do livro “Frog, where are you?”, de Mercer Mayer. Dessas interações,
foram recortados todos os verbos no infinitivo, que foram codificados e analisados de acordo com as variáveis
a serem investigadas. A análise da amostra revelou que dos 558 coletados houve apagamento em 553, o que
equivale a 99,1%. Quanto às variáveis linguísticas e sociais, nenhuma mostrou-se relevante para o fenômeno.

ABSTRACT
The linguistic variation is still seen by many people, including teachers of the Portuguese language, as a mistake
– even though it is an old phenomenon in the Brazilian Portuguese speech, present in all social classes. In this
context it is found the erasing of the phoneme /r/ at the end of the verbs, such as in place of “vou
fazer”. Regarding that, this work had as objective the investigation of the use of the /r/ at the end of verbs in
the infinitive form, in spontaneous speech of 18 children from 1º, 3º and 5º year of middle school, from a private
school at the city of Novo Hamburgo - 9 children of each gender and 6 of each school year, in order to verify
if there was, in fact, a tendency, increasingly more often, to erase the /r/. The study also intended to verify in
which measure the social variables (gender and education) and the linguistic variables (type of verb - 1ª, 2ª or
3ª - conjugation and the context which follows it) influence the speaking of children. To collect the data of their
speech, it was asked the children to tell the story of the book “Frog, where are you”, by Mercer Mayer. From their
enunciation, it was identified all of the verbs that were in the infinitive form, which were then codified according
to the variables to be investigated. The analysis of the data revealed that, in 558 verbs identified, 553 of them
presented the erasing of the /r/, or 99,1% of data. Concerning the linguistic and social variables analyzed, none
of them showed to be relevant to the occurrence of the phenomenon.
