R E S U M O
Desenvolvido no Projeto de Pesquisa Memórias do mundo do trabalho, práticas sociais e representações
simbólicas: coleções etnográficas e etnografia audiovisual de bairros nas metrópoles contemporâneas/CNPq,
o tema central do artigo apresenta dados parciais da pesquisa sobre as memórias do mundo do trabalho no
Vale dos Sinos/RS, região associada ao processo de imigração alemã no sul do Brasil, a partir da trajetória
social e dos itinerários urbanos de três gerações de mulheres negras, moradoras de Novo Hamburgo. Através
da pesquisa etnográfica em contextos metropolitanos, e com o auxílio de equipamentos audiovisuais,
o artigo tem por inspiração os estudos das autoras Cornelia Eckert e Ana Luiza Carvalho da Rocha (2003)
sobre o tema da etnografia da duração e de Margarete Nunes e Magna Magalhães (2013) sobre as formas
de sociabilidades negras e o mundo do trabalho em Novo Hamburgo. A pesquisa tem evidenciado que
misoginia e o racismo marcam a inserção da mão de obra feminina negra no mercado de trabalho da
região do Vale dos Sinos, tomando-se como ponto de partida as narrativas da matriarca da família Santos,
nascida apenas 35 anos após a assinatura da Lei Áurea, de quem uma das autoras do artigo é a neta.

ABSTRACT
Developed inside the research project Memories of the world of work, social practices and symbolic representations:
ethnographical collections and audiovisual ethnography in the neighborhoods of contemporary
metropolises/CNPq, the central theme of this article presents partial research data of the memories of the
world of work in the Sinos Valley Region/RS, a region associated with the German immigration process in
the south of Brazil, from the social trajectory and urban itineraries of three generations of b lack women who
live in Novo Hamburgo. By ethnographical research in metropolitan contexts, with the aid of audiovisual equipment
to record the women’s testimonies, the study is inspired in articles and other productions of Cornelia
Eckert and Ana Luiza Carvalho da Rocha (2003) about the duration ethnography and also Margarete Nunes and
Magna Magalhães’ (2013) work about forms of black sociability and the world of work in Novo Hamburgo. The
research has made evident that misogyny and racism were factors that marked the insertion of black female
work force in the work market in the Sinos Valley region, becoming the starting point of the narratives of the
matriarch of the Santos family, born only 35 years after the signing of the Golden Law, and grandmother of
one of the authors of this article.
