Resumo: Anatol Rosenfeld (1912-1973), na condição de judeu alemão,
teve que refugiar-se no Brasil, em 1937, perseguido pelo
nazismo. No exílio reconstruiu a sua vida pessoal e intelectual,
convertendo-se num dos mais influentes críticos culturais,
literários e de teatro deste país. Além disso, atuou como
mediador destacado entre a cultura alemã e a brasileira. Um
órgão central nesta atividade foi o próprio Staden-Jahrbuch,
onde em 1954 Rosenfeld começou a publicar ensaios em
alemão. Os três primeiros desses textos, que tratam de aproximar
o leitor alemão a questões mais gerais da cultura e sociedade
brasileiras, são analisados aqui como o primeiro gesto
mediador do crítico transcultural, e situados no contexto de
sua obra e da sua experiência do exílio.
Abstract: As a German Jew, Anatol Rosenfeld (1912-1973) was forced
by the Nazi persecution to escape to Brazil in 1937. In exile
he reconstructed his personal and intellectual life and became
one of Brazil’s most influential theorists on culture,
literature and theater. Furthermore he was an active and
extraordinary mediator between German and Brazilian culture.
One of the central instruments for this purpose was the
very Staden-Jahrbuch where Rosenfeld, from 1954 on, regularly
published essays written in German. In his first three
publications he tries to familiarize his German readers with
more general questions of Brazilian culture and society. They
are analyzed here as the first mediating gesture of this
transcultural critic and situated within the context of his
œuvre and of his exile experience.
