Message Overlay for Text Messaging<br />

<strong>Guide</strong>lines<br />

Message Overlay allows the operator or administrator to send text messages to a single,<br />

several or all participants during an ongoing conference.<br />

The text message is seen as part of the in the participant’s video layout on the endpoint<br />

screen or desktop display.<br />

• Message Overlay messaging is supported in:<br />

— MPM+ and MPMx Card Configuration Modes, with a few differences in<br />

implementation between the two modes<br />

— continuous Presence (CP) conferences<br />

— in Same Layout mode<br />

— in encrypted conferences<br />

It is not available for Video Switching (VSW) conferences.<br />

• Messages Overlay can be enabled or disabled during the ongoing conference.<br />

• Text messages Content can be changed on the fly during the ongoing conference.<br />

• Message Overlay text messages are supported in Unicode or ASCII characters.<br />

• The number of characters for each language can vary due to the type of font used, for<br />

example, the available number of characters for Chinese is 32, while for English and<br />

Russian it is 48.<br />

— In some languages, for example Russian, when large font size is selected, both<br />

rolling and static messages may be truncated if the message length exceeds the<br />

resolution width.<br />

• Changes to the Message Overlay display characteristics (position, size, color and speed)<br />

are immediately visible to all participants.<br />

Changes to the Message Overlay Content are immediately visible to all participants.<br />

When there is a current Message Overlay:<br />

— The current message is stopped immediately.<br />

— The Display Repetition count is reset to 1.<br />

— The new message Content is displayed times or until it is<br />

stopped and replaced by another Content change.<br />

• If a Repeating Message is modified before it has completed all its repetitions, it is changed<br />

immediately without completing all of its repetitions. The modified Repeating Message is<br />

displayed starting with repetition one.<br />

• Message Overlay messaging is not supported in Lecture mode.<br />

• Participants that have their video suspended do not receive Message Overlays messages.<br />
