La probabilidad de recibir <strong>cuidado</strong> informal La planificación de políticas públicas se basa, en el mejor de los casos, en el cálculo de probabilidades sobre la incidencia de los problemas sociales (vivienda, desempleo, dependencia, etc.) en los diferentes grupos de población (jóvenes, empleados, mujeres, etc.). La estimación de las probabilidades asociadas a la recepción de los diferentes tipos de atención que reciben los mayores dependientes puede ser especialmente útil para el diseño de medidas colectivas desde el ámbito público. A continuación se realizan varios mo<strong>del</strong>os de regresión logística binaria con datos de la ENSE 2003, con el objetivo de identificar las variables sociodemográficas que más se asocian a la recepción de <strong>cuidado</strong> VOLUMEN Y DISTRIBUCIÓN DEL CUIDADO A MAYORES EN ESPAÑA 201
LOS TIEMPOS DEL CUIDADO 202 informal. Las variables independientes introducidas en los mo<strong>del</strong>os se detallan en la Tabla 6.3. 9 . Algunas han sido recodificadas con el fin de mantener un número suficiente de casos que permita la validez estadística. <strong>Los</strong> tres mo<strong>del</strong>os tienen un ajuste aceptable, reflejado en la r-cuadrado de Nagelkerke (Tabla 6.4.). Las personas que padecen problemas mentales o mentales y físicos tienen significativamente mayores dificultades para desarrollar su vida diaria que quienes padecen únicamente problemas físicos. Esto se debe, en buena medida, a que el 86% de las personas que padecen problemas mentales también padecen problemas físicos. Tras varias comprobaciones, se decide incluir en los mo<strong>del</strong>os la variable “tipo de problema”. El Mo<strong>del</strong>o 1 (Tabla 6.4.) compara las características de (a) aquellos que no reciben <strong>cuidado</strong> y (b) quienes sólo reciben <strong>cuidado</strong> informal. Las variables seleccionadas por el mo<strong>del</strong>o como significativas son la edad, el tamaño <strong>del</strong> hogar y el tipo de problema que padecen. <strong>Los</strong> odds ratio (cocientes de probabilidad) muestran que los mayores de 85 años tienen 2,7 veces más probabilidades de recibir <strong>cuidado</strong> informal que los situados entre 65 y 74 años. A medida que aumenta el tamaño <strong>del</strong> hogar se incrementa significativamente la probabilidad de recibir apoyo informal. En relación con aquellos que sólo experimentan problemas físicos, los que también padecen problemas mentales tienen 3,7 veces más probabilidades de recibir <strong>cuidado</strong> informal 10 . 9) Estas variables y categorías se utilizan para todos los mo<strong>del</strong>os de regresión logística desarrollados en este capítulo. 10) El Mo<strong>del</strong>o 1 selecciona como significativa la variable tipo de problema, cuando habría cabido esperar que apareciera la variable nivel de dificultad. Esto sugiere que, de cara a la recepción de <strong>cuidado</strong> informal, el padecimiento de problemas mentales y físicos combinados es más determinante que el hecho de tener dificultades severas en las AVD.
