superan los 84 años (Tabla 6.6.). La proporción de mayores que reciben apoyo de los servicios sociales se dobla a partir de los 75 años, manteniéndose estable a partir de esa edad (en torno al 8,5%). En concordancia, ambos tipos de <strong>cuidado</strong> se incrementan entre quienes tienen más dificultades en su vida diaria. El <strong>cuidado</strong> formal más sensible al nivel de dificultad es el provisto desde los servicios sociales, que casi se dobla entre los mayores con dificultades severas. El <strong>cuidado</strong> formal público es más frecuente en los hogares con menos miembros. El 18,4% de los mayores que viven solos recibe <strong>cuidado</strong> de servicios sociales, apoyo que prácticamente desaparece entre los mayores que viven en hogares de cuatro o más miembros (Tabla 6.6.). Ello no debe extrañar si se tiene en cuenta que uno de los criterios seleccionados por algunas administraciones para la provisión de servicios públicos de <strong>cuidado</strong> es la ausencia de familiares en el entorno. El <strong>cuidado</strong> provisto por empleadas de hogar está más presente entre quienes viven solos y entre aquellos que viven en hogares con cuatro o más personas. En este último caso, es probable que los hijos trabajen y que complementen su propio <strong>cuidado</strong> con el de un <strong>cuidado</strong>r remunerado. La proporción de mayores no casados que recibe <strong>cuidado</strong> de empleados de hogar es más <strong>del</strong> doble que la de los casados, lo que confirma que la ausencia de la pareja potencia la utilización de servicios privados (Tabla 6.6.). Sin embargo, la proporción de quienes reciben <strong>cuidado</strong> público es similar en ambos grupos. En muchas parejas de mayores, ambos tienen dificultades para desarrollar su vida diaria y no pueden cuidarse mutuamente, lo que promueve la aparición <strong>del</strong> <strong>cuidado</strong> proveniente de las administraciones públicas, especialmente cuando no hay hijos disponibles. La presencia <strong>del</strong> <strong>cuidado</strong> procedente de servicios sociales disminuye a medida que aumentan los ingresos <strong>del</strong> hogar, hasta desaparecer en los hogares con los ingresos más elevados (Tabla 6.6.). Ello se debe, como se ha mencionado, a que las administraciones públicas utilizan el criterio económico para prescribir servicios. El <strong>cuidado</strong> privado es significativamente mayor en los tramos de ingresos más altos, en los que triplica su presencia con respecto a los hogares con ingresos más bajos. Las personas con un nivel educativo más elevado reciben más <strong>cuidado</strong> de empleados de hogar: el 27,9% de quienes tienen estudios secundarios o post-secundarios reciben este tipo de <strong>cuidado</strong>, por el 7,9% de las personas sin estudios (Tabla 6.6.). El <strong>cuidado</strong> desde la esfera pública parece reducirse ligeramente entre los mayores con más estudios (lo reciben el 8,4% de quienes tienen estudios secundarios y post-secundarios y el 5,8% de quienes no tienen estudios). Estos mayores cuentan con recursos para contratar a un <strong>cuidado</strong>r y no cumplen los requisitos para optar a los servicios públicos. El <strong>cuidado</strong> de origen público presenta escasas variaciones en función <strong>del</strong> tamaño <strong>del</strong> municipio. Sin embargo, en las localidades con menos de 10.000 habitantes se observa menor proporción de mayores que reciben <strong>cuidado</strong> de empleados de hogar (Tabla 6.6.). Probablemente, la falta de tiempo de los familiares es una de las razones que promueve la contratación de <strong>cuidado</strong>res en las ciudades. Una segunda razón es que la oferta de estos trabajadores en las áreas rurales es menor que en las áreas urbanas. Finalmente, como tercera causa posible, el mayor control social de los pueblos pequeños podría estar actuando como inhibidor de la utilización de este tipo de recursos.
