PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Agricultural Registration and Enforcement account supports the registration, inspection sampling, and laboratory analysis of fertilizers, antifreeze, and pesticide products offered for sale.
Under an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cooperative enforcement agreement, the program also provides pesticide product inspection at the retail level and monitors the application
of pesticides. Also enforced under the agreement are the EPA groundwater protection, worker protection, and endangered species protection programs. Another grant is received from the
EPA for the certification and training of restricted use pesticide applicators. This budget also houses the pesticide application operator licensing program and the nursery licensing program.
Statutory Authority: NRS 561 State Department of Agriculture, NRS 586 Pesticides; Dangerous Caustic or Corrosive Substances, NRS 588 Commercial Fertilizers and Agricultural Minerals,
and NRS 590 Motor Vehicle Fuel, Petroleum Products and Antifreeze.
BASE
This request continues funding for twenty-one positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized.
