DHHS - DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES - The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS), together in genuine partnership with families,
communities and county governmental agencies, provides support and services to assist Nevada's children and families in reaching their full human potential. We recognize
that Nevada's families are our future and families thrive when they live in safe, permanent settings; experience sustainable emotional and physical well being; and receive
support to consistently make positive choices for family and common good.
Division Budget Highlights:
1. Fund Child Welfare Caseload Growth - With the continuation of child welfare block
grant in Washoe and Clark Counties, adoption caseload growth is included at approximately
11% with rural regions just under 14% and foster care caseload projections for rural child
welfare around 7.5%.
2. Consolidate Juvenile Justice Budgets - The three juvenile justice correctional centers
budgets are combined into a single Correctional Facilities budget to provide the flexibility
needed to operate the facilities based on the needs of the youth committed by the courts for
correctional care.
3. Reopen Summit View Correctional Center (SVCC) - Reopening will occur October
2013. Funding is included for up to fifty state correctional beds and necessary start-up costs
for equipment/services to bring the facility to an operational level. Savings from Elko Youth
Training Center due to low capacity is being reinvested for the reopening of SVCC.
4. Enhance Juvenile Justice - Youth Alternative Placement budget receives $650,000 in
General Funds per year for the China Springs/Aurora Pines Youth Camp. This increase in
General Funds will decrease the Youth Camp assessments owed by the sixteen counties (all
but Clark County).
5. Enhance Children's Mental Health - Healthy Nevada Funds are added to provide parent
management training statewide, evidence-based group treatment intervention in northern
Nevada and a mobile crisis unit in southern Nevada. Projects were recommended by the
Clark and Washoe County Children's Mental Health Consortium.
6. Expand Children's Mental Health - The Southern Nevada Child and Adolescent
Services budget includes four new positions to provide for the re-opening of an additional
unit at Desert Willow Treatment Center to come into compliance with Federal Regulations.
