DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE - The <strong>Nevada</strong> Department of Agriculture promotes a sustainable agriculture and natural resources industry which works to<br />

protect food, fiber, human health, and safety through effective service, regulatory action and agricultural literacy.<br />

Department <strong>Budget</strong> Highlights:<br />

1. Reorganize the Department - Administration adds eleven new administrative, fiscal,<br />

information technology, education, and support positions as a result of the new reporting<br />

structure reorganization and infrastructure needs.<br />

2. Consolidate Food and Nutrition Programs - To provide improved service delivery,<br />

efficiency, and take advantage of economic development opportunities, the department<br />

proposes to consolidate food and nutrition programs from Administration, Dairy<br />

Commission, and Education into the Department of Agriculture.<br />

3. Fund Youth Livestock Programs - Administration requests $20,000 each fiscal year to<br />

support youth livestock production programs.<br />

4. Consolidate Divisions - As part of the department's reorganizational plan, Gas Pollution<br />

Standards are transferred to Weights and Measures and Grade and Certification of<br />

Agriculture Products is transferred to Registration and Enforcement.<br />

5. Reclassify Administrative Staff - Registration and Enforcement reclassifies the Division<br />

Administrator for Plant Industries to the Administrator for Plant Industries Division and<br />

reclassifies the Plant Industries Regional Manager position to a Deputy Administrator for<br />

Plant Industries as part of the agency's reorganization plan.<br />

6. Increase Livestock Fee and Eliminate Position - Livestock Inspection proposes<br />

increasing the fee rates for the Special Livestock Fee to fund the Animal Identification budget<br />

of the Animal Industry Division. These fees have not been adjusted in over 50 years. The<br />

Unclassified Division Administrator position is eliminated.<br />

7. Establish Sagebrush Ecosystem Team - The DCNR Director heads a key Governor's<br />

initiative establishing a 5-member multidisciplinary, inter-agency Sagebrush Ecosystem<br />

Team (that includes Agriculture, Minerals, State Lands, and Forestry) to address the potential<br />

listing of the Greater Sage-grouse on the federal species endangered list.<br />
