DTCA - MUSEUMS AND HISTORY DIVISION - The mission of the Division of Museums and History is to engage people in the cultural and natural history of
Nevada so they may celebrate the past, learn from it, and develop perspective for present and future generations.
Division Budget Highlights:
1. Restore Museum Positions to Full-Time - Previous budget reductions resulted in
museum staff being reduced to part-time and museums being closed 3 days a week.
Restoring personnel to full-time will enable a partial restoration of service, open museums to
the public 5 or 6 days per week while increasing revenue and better serving Nevadans.
2. Partial Restoration of Personnel - Previous budget reductions resulted in partial museum
closures. To restore public services, two half-time positions are included. At the Nevada State
Museum in Carson City, a half-time security officer will be restored and at the East Ely
Railroad Museum, a half-time museum attendant will be added.
3. Install New Interactive Visitor Kiosks - In order to capture critical data on who is
visiting museums, two interactive visitor kiosks will be developed and installed at The Lost
City Museum and the Nevada State Museum. These units will provide verifiable statistical
data to direct marketing and programming efforts.
