PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />

The <strong>Nevada</strong> State Museum, located in the state capital of Carson City, is the state's largest museum. Housed in the historic 1869 Carson City Mint building, listed on the National Register of<br />

Historic Places, the museum is an icon and historical artifact. The museum serves the public through extensive collections, education, and exhibition programs related to <strong>Nevada</strong>'s rich<br />

heritage of prehistory, history, and natural history. The museum preserves collections at several locations, including the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Research Center and the Indian<br />

Hills Curatorial Center. The museum also provides museum technical assistance for <strong>Nevada</strong>'s non-state museums public history support for a variety of reference and public program<br />

requests, and fosters occasional archaeological and natural history fieldwork. America's largest exhibited Imperial Mammoth; Dat So La Lee Baskets; "U.S.S. <strong>Nevada</strong>" silver service; a<br />

replica walkthrough mine and ghost town; and Coin Press No. 1. are all on exhibit. Statutory Authority: NRS 381.<br />

BASE<br />

This request continues funding for 15.42 positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized.<br />
