ADMIN - STATE PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION - The State Public Works Division (SPWD) efficiently and effectively plans and manages capital improvements and
state facilities. As the state's building official, SPWD regulates all construction on state lands in order to safeguard public health, safety, and welfare. SPWD also provides
reliable Marlette Lake water delivery.
Division Budget Highlights:
1. Centralize Public Works Administrative Services - The State Public Works Division
(SPWD) proposes to establish an administrative services account and consolidate its
administrative and management services for the division. Costs for the administrative
services unit will be cost allocated to the other SPWD units.
2. Eliminate Positions - In response to a decreasing Capital Improvement Program the State
Public Works Division is eliminating seven engineering and building inspection positions
representing approximately 21 percent of the division's Engineering and Planning staff.
3. Address Deferred Maintenance Projects - Buildings and Grounds is requesting funding
in excess of $1.5M to address some of the state's most urgent deferred maintenance needs in
state-owned facilities. The past several years of budget reductions have created significant
maintenance backlogs.
4. Consolidate Management - Buildings and Grounds is consolidating its management
structure resulting in elimination of one management position within the Buildings and
Grounds unit of the Public Works Division. Duties and responsibilities will be consolidated
within the division's Administrative Service budget.
