PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />

The State Library and Archives is the institutional memory of the state and is responsible for preserving and developing the state's most valuable assets: its heritage, the collective product of<br />

its people, resources, business endeavors, and government. The State Library provides governments, agencies, businesses, libraries, and citizens a full range of information services<br />

including: reference, research materials, and support services; library planning and development; and services designed for citizens with disabilities. The State Library and Archives houses<br />

the State Data Center, which offers census information statewide. The library functions as a depository of U.S. Government documents. The library operates the State Publications<br />

Distribution Center, which distributes official state government documents electronically statewide to ensure <strong>Nevada</strong> citizens have free access to state government publications. The State<br />

Library develops state information policies to ensure equal access to government information is available in all formats. Library development services provide leadership, grants, and other<br />

assistance to <strong>Nevada</strong>'s libraries, archives, and literacy communities to improve services for all <strong>Nevada</strong>ns including general consulting; administering funds for improvement of library<br />

services; collaborating with local, state and federal agencies to develop and implement programs; and facilitating statewide planning efforts. The <strong>Nevada</strong> Talking Book Services provides<br />

direct library services statewide to individuals who qualify due to visual and/or physical impairments. Statutory Authority: NRS 378.010 through 378.210.<br />

BASE<br />

This request continues funding for 16.75 positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized.<br />
