DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS - To protect the public by confining convicted felons according to the law, while keeping staff and inmates safe.<br />

Department <strong>Budget</strong> Highlights:<br />

1. Adjustments to Caseload - The department budget includes caseload adjustments based<br />

on JFA Associates October 2012 projections, resulting in an increase of 330 additional<br />

inmates over the biennium. The budget is based on serving an average inmate population of<br />

12,746 in fiscal year 2014 and 12,774 in fiscal year <strong>2015</strong>.<br />

2. Transfer of Parole Services - The department budget includes the realignment of parole<br />

services to provide continuum of care of convicted felons returning to the community. This<br />

includes the transfer of 105 existing positions from the Division of Parole and Probation and<br />

two new positions.<br />

3. Upgrade and Enhance Information Technology - The department budget places a<br />

high priority on updating information technology infrastructure. This includes a one-shot<br />

appropriation for the <strong>Nevada</strong> Offender Tracking Information System (NOTIS) upgrade and<br />

end-user training, and 3.51 new information technology positions.<br />

4. Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) - The Governor's <strong>Executive</strong> <strong>Budget</strong> includes<br />

approximately thirty million in department CIPs. Noteworthy projects include the Ely State<br />

Prison execution chamber and various facility replacements of HVAC systems, door control<br />

panels, electrical, lighting, flooring, bathrooms, chillers and boilers.<br />
