DHHS - BEHAVIORAL HEALTH - The mission of the Division of Public and Behavioral Health is to develop and operate programs that assist individuals who have<br />

mental illness or developmental disabilities to live as independently as possible.<br />

Division <strong>Budget</strong> Highlights:<br />

1. Consolidation of Public & Behavioral Health - This consolidation will integrate public<br />

and behavioral health services by leveraging existing capacity. Implementing a patient<br />

centered system of care for prevention, early intervention and access to treatment.<br />

2. Affordable Care Act (ACA) Savings - The ACA will save the state substantial General<br />

Fund for pharmacy expenditures, outpatient services, and substance abuse prevention and<br />

treatment (SAPTA) because Medicaid can be billed for more of the services currently<br />

provided.<br />

3. Expanding Urgent Care and Medical Clearance - To more effectively manage the<br />

flow of individuals seeking psychiatric services, Southern <strong>Nevada</strong> Adult Mental Health<br />

facility is co-locating a walk-in clinic to provide medical clearance and urgent care services.<br />

Northern <strong>Nevada</strong> Mental Health facility is expanding medical clearance hours.<br />

4. Returning Out-of- State Youth to <strong>Nevada</strong> - Based on data provided by <strong>Nevada</strong> Youth<br />

Parole and Services, funding is being provided for five children in out of state placements to<br />

return to <strong>Nevada</strong>. Children will receive placement with a high level of community<br />

supervision and care.<br />

5. Expanding Mental Health Court - The division is expanding mental health court which<br />

is a diversion program for clients in the criminial justice system whose charges are due to<br />

their mental illness.<br />
