PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Criminal Justice Assistance (OCJA) obtains, administers, and sub-grants to state and local government agencies grant funds from the U.S.
Department of Justice for programs that address illegal drug use, trafficking, violent crime, and improvement of the functioning of the criminal justice system. The objective is to coordinate
education, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement to achieve a comprehensive solution to the problems of drug abuse and violent crime. Funding for this budget comes primarily from
federal grants with a partial match from General Fund appropriation. Created by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, Section 1308 of the Act states that the chief executive of each state shall
designate a State Administrative Agency (SAA). In 1987, the Office of Criminal Justice Assistance was designated by the Governor as the SAA for Nevada. In November of 2000, the Office
of Criminal Justice Assistance was designated by the Governor as the state coordinator for the 1033 Department of Defense Excess Property Program, and the state point of contact for the
1122 General Services Administration (GSA) Purchasing Program. Statutory Authority: NRS 480.800

This request continues funding for four positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized.
