PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />

The Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Criminal Justice Assistance (OCJA) obtains, administers, and sub-grants to state and local government agencies grant funds from the U.S.<br />

Department of Justice for programs that address illegal drug use, trafficking, violent crime, and improvement of the functioning of the criminal justice system. The objective is to coordinate<br />

education, prevention, treatment, and law enforcement to achieve a comprehensive solution to the problems of drug abuse and violent crime. Funding for this budget comes primarily from<br />

federal grants with a partial match from General Fund appropriation. Created by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986, Section 1308 of the Act states that the chief executive of each state shall<br />

designate a State Administrative Agency (SAA). In 1987, the Office of Criminal Justice Assistance was designated by the Governor as the SAA for <strong>Nevada</strong>. In November of 2000, the Office<br />

of Criminal Justice Assistance was designated by the Governor as the state coordinator for the 1033 Department of Defense Excess Property Program, and the state point of contact for the<br />

1122 General Services Administration (GSA) Purchasing Program. Statutory Authority: NRS 480.800<br />

BASE<br />

This request continues funding for four positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized.<br />
