PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM -
Department Budget Highlights:
1. Add New Positions to Enhance Services - Two retirement positions are being added for
increased verification of certain processes, vital after 2009 benefit changes and the potential
for errors with the added complexity, to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of counseling and
calculations.
2. Add New Audit Division Position - PERS Audit Division is adding an Auditor to ensure
that all employers are calculating their member contributions correctly and properly enrolling
employees in PERS. This position will also audit benefit accounts to ensure that retirees are
receiving the correct payments.
3. Replace Computer Server - To meet the requirements of NRS Chapter 286 and internal
policies, technology plays a significant role. Server support is only available for 5 years, at
which point servers and other IT hardware and software must be replaced or upgraded in
order to ensure continued security and functionality.
4. Replace Phone System - The current phone system is no longer able to efficiently handle
the 11,000+ phone calls that are received on a monthly basis, and vendor support is no longer
available for this system.
5. Replace Vehicle - A new vehicle has been requested, since the only vehicle owned by
PERS is 12 years old and no longer reliable to drive to rural areas for retirement counseling
and educational seminars.
