PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />

The Workers' Compensation Fraud Unit (WCFU) is responsible for the investigation and prosecution of all workers' compensation fraud committed in the State of <strong>Nevada</strong> by employers,<br />

employees (claimants) or medical providers against companies providing insurance and any of <strong>Nevada</strong>'s self-insured employers. The WCFU is also the sole government agency responsible<br />

for prosecuting any fraud committed in the administration of workers' compensation. Statutory Authority: NRS Chapters 228 and 616D.<br />

The Insurance Fraud Unit (IFU) has the primary statutory responsibility to criminally prosecute those who make, or assist someone else in making, material misrepresentations on<br />

applications for insurance, and/or submit false claims for benefits with private insurance companies. Statutory Authority: NRS Chapters 228.412 and 686A.2815.<br />

BASE<br />

This request continues funding for thirty-seven positions and associated operating costs. One-time expenditures have been eliminated and partial year costs have been annualized. The<br />

account will experience a reduction to its Insurance Division transfer pending a Bill Draft Request to restore fee collection practices previous to the First Judicial District ruling regarding<br />

fraud fees.<br />
