SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE - The Office of the Secretary of State ensures the integrity of elections; facilitates business filings; protects consumers against
securities fraud; preserves public records; appoints notaries public; administers and maintains registries for advance directives, domestic partnerships and ministers; and
promotes public awareness and education in these and related areas.
Department Budget Highlights:
1. Systems Maintenance - The Secretary of State's office is highlighting ongoing system and
software maintenance to the electronic Secretary of State system known as eSOS, and the
campaign finance disclosure system known as Aurora.
2. Disaster Recovery - Nevada Business Portal architecture seeks to provide business
continuity in the event of a critical outage via a disaster recovery site that allows the Portal to
continue operations.
3. Voter Registration - The Secretary of State is requesting an enhancement to the federallymandated
statewide voter registration list through continued participation in data matching
initiatives and improvements to online voter registration processes.
4. Lightweight Access Protocol (LDAP) - Nevada Business Portal security architecture
must meet and does meet State security standards. LDAP is required in order to store user
profile data which will allow the agencies to develop enterprise level single sign on solution.
5. Contract Development Services - The Secretary of State's Office will continue to build
out applications, interfaces, and services within the Nevada Business Portal which will allow
customers the ability to transact more of their businesses with a variety of state and local
agencies.
6. Combine Business Portal and Sec of State accounts - The Secretary of State's office
will be closing budget account 1058 (Portal) and have those costs transferred back into
budget account 1050 in order to improve funding efficiencies in general operating categories,
accounting functionality and program efficiencies.
