Harvard-Yenching Institute has scheduled to hold Beijing conference under the topic
of ―East Civilization in the Process of Globalization‖, after successfully holding
2003‘s symposium of ―East Asia's View on World Culture‖. At that time, nearly one
hundred experts and scholars, from the Mainland, HK, Korean, Japan, America and
many other countries or districts, will be present at Peking University, discussing the
front-line topics in their special fields and sharing the updated fruits in
multi-disciplinary angles.
This symposium is supposed to encourage scholars in East Asian universities and
research institutes to discuss the opportunities and challenges that the East
Civilization is facing in the process of globalization, to enhance their corporations in
the multi-fields of literature, history, philosophy,politics ,economics ,law ,sociology,
ethnology and communication etc, to provide a platform where scholars in Asia can
voice their attitudes and communicate with their worldwide contemporaries. The
conference will include six topics as follows:
1. East Asian societies and cultures in the process of economic globalization;
2. Convergence and conflict between East and West Civilizations
3. Economic developments, public policies and East Asian Cultural heritage;
4. Order and justice under the social development;
5. Asian cultural communication and mass communication;
6. Global civilization in the eyes of the East
