Population Study. Since 2000, top scientists involved in ―China‘s Born Disfigurement
Interference Project‖ had been working here; two years later, those who worked for
―China‘s Born Disfigurement Heredity and Environment Controllability Research
Center‖ came to reside here and, in 2003, PKU Gerontics Research Center was
established.
Griffith University was a relatively new multiversity, founded in 1971, one of the most
famous universities in Australia. They are making great progress in the construction
of cross-discipline courses as well as in the rising advanced domain. The university
has its Asian Studies Institute, the first university in Australia who has Asian Studies
courses available for undergraduate students.
People had made progress in the research in population and environment, and they
had recognized the importance of population health and improvement in
environmental quality, Professor Lin Jianhua, PKU vice president thus said in his
welcome speech. He hoped that the establishment of the Center could make
contribution to China‘s population health and strengthen the academic cooperation
between the two countries.
Ian O‘Conner said population health and environment protection had become crucial
for both of the two countries and required more academic support. Since Griffith had
carried out many similar researches in Asia, he was looking forward to progress in
teaching and research in the domain through bilateral cooperation.
