<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Nov. 3. 2008: Dr. Jan Peter Balkenende, Prime Minister <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Kingdom <strong>of</strong> Netherlands, together with his delegation, visited <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong><br />

(<strong>PKU</strong>) and spoke at Overseas Exchange Center on October 28. Zhang Jun,<br />

Ambassador to the Netherlands for China, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Xu Zhihong, Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> and<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficials <strong>of</strong> Foreign Affairs Ministry from China and the Netherlands attended the<br />

speech.<br />

On behalf <strong>of</strong> all the teachers and students, Pr<strong>of</strong>. Xu Zhihong first gave Dr.<br />

Balkenende a warm welcome and made a speech. He pointed out that the<br />

relationship between China and the Netherlands developed very well in recent years<br />

and Dr. Baldenende‘ s visit proved it as well. In the mean time, cooperation between<br />

<strong>PKU</strong> and the high education sectors <strong>of</strong> the Netherlands increased. He also<br />

introduced studying and living conditions at <strong>PKU</strong> <strong>of</strong> the students from the<br />

Netherlands and the education exchanges between <strong>PKU</strong> and Universiteit Leiden.<br />

With a warm applause, Dr. Balkenende started his speech. He first gave<br />

congratulations to China‘s successful host <strong>of</strong> the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and<br />

Paralympic Games. He also looked back on the scene <strong>of</strong> his attendance to the<br />

Opening Ceremony <strong>of</strong> this Olympic Games and thought it was one <strong>of</strong> the most<br />
