Great Immigrants of the Three Gorges
on the Yangtze River

Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 14th 2006: A lecture about the great spirit of
immigrants‘ of the Three Gorges implicating the sacrifice of one‘s own interests for
the sake of a nation, was given at the Centennial Hall of Peking University at 2p.m.
on Apr. 14th 2006 . Some immigrants and officials who had experienced the millions
of immigrants moving over China told heart-warming stories to the audience.
On Apr. the third 1992, China decided to implement the key water control project at
the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River. On Dec. 14th 1994, the project started up,
which was to form the biggest submersed reservoir all around the world. To
accomplish the great project of China, lots of places along the Yangtze River had to
be submersed. There came a big problem that the people who lived under certain
water level would lose their home and move to other places. It was even worse that
the number of those people is over a million. It is a very hard work for both the
government and the immigrants.
Every immigrant in the key water control project at the Three Gorges on the Yangtze
River has made a great contribution to our nation. Though what the 8 lecturers
showed is just a drop in the bucket, the great spirit of them moved every audience.
