<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, September 27, 2006: Associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor Wang Yidan, dean<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Persian Language Office was invited to attend international seminars on Iranian<br />

Studies at Oxford <strong>University</strong> and London <strong>University</strong> recently. This is the first time <strong>PKU</strong><br />

scholars on Iranian Studies have attended large-scale international academic<br />

conference.<br />

On the invitation <strong>of</strong> Oxford <strong>University</strong> and Iran Heritage Foundation, Wang attended the<br />

seminar held at Oxford <strong>University</strong> from July 30th to August 2nd for the 100th<br />

Anniversary for Iranian Constitutional Revolution and made a keynote speech entitled<br />

―The Impact <strong>of</strong> the Iranian Constitutional Revolution in China‖. With the aid <strong>of</strong><br />

documentary materials and pictures from Chinese newspapers and periodicals in<br />

modern times, she took a look back at the impact Iranian Constitutional Revolution had<br />

in China before its Revolution <strong>of</strong> 1911 and made an analysis <strong>of</strong> the social and historical<br />

reasons for the impact. Western scholars present at the seminar were deeply impressed<br />

by Wang‘s pr<strong>of</strong>ound research on Iranian Studies. Iranian American scholar on Iranian<br />

Studies Ehsan Yarshater, editor-in-chief <strong>of</strong> Encyclopedia <strong>of</strong> Iran invited her to write for<br />

the entry ―Chinese and Iranian Constitutional Revolution‖.<br />

Shortly after this seminar, Wang was also present at the 6th Biennial Conference on<br />

Iranian Studies held from August 3rd to 6th at London <strong>University</strong>, during which Wang<br />

submitted a research report ―A Study <strong>of</strong> the List <strong>of</strong> Persian-Arabic Books in Mishujian<br />

Zhi‖. After the conference, she was invited by <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Lausanne Switzerland to<br />

translate Omar Khayyam‘s Rubaiyat into Chinese.<br />

Born in 1966 in Guangdong Province, Wang Yidan received her master‘s degree on<br />

Persian language in 1990 from <strong>PKU</strong>. She got the doctor‘s degree on Persian Literature<br />

from Iran Teheran <strong>University</strong> in 1999. Since 2003, she has been the dean <strong>of</strong> Persian<br />

Language Office <strong>of</strong> the Oriental Language Department <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Foreign<br />

Languages, <strong>PKU</strong>, with a specialization in Iranian literature and history <strong>of</strong> cultural<br />

relations between China and Iran in the 13th and 14th century.<br />
