PKU Associate Prof. Wang Yidan
Attends International Seminars on
Iranian Studies

Peking University, Beijing, September 27, 2006: Associate professor Wang Yidan, dean
of the Persian Language Office was invited to attend international seminars on Iranian
Studies at Oxford University and London University recently. This is the first time PKU
scholars on Iranian Studies have attended large-scale international academic
conference.
On the invitation of Oxford University and Iran Heritage Foundation, Wang attended the
seminar held at Oxford University from July 30th to August 2nd for the 100th
Anniversary for Iranian Constitutional Revolution and made a keynote speech entitled
―The Impact of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution in China‖. With the aid of
documentary materials and pictures from Chinese newspapers and periodicals in
modern times, she took a look back at the impact Iranian Constitutional Revolution had
in China before its Revolution of 1911 and made an analysis of the social and historical
reasons for the impact. Western scholars present at the seminar were deeply impressed
by Wang‘s profound research on Iranian Studies. Iranian American scholar on Iranian
Studies Ehsan Yarshater, editor-in-chief of Encyclopedia of Iran invited her to write for
the entry ―Chinese and Iranian Constitutional Revolution‖.
Shortly after this seminar, Wang was also present at the 6th Biennial Conference on
Iranian Studies held from August 3rd to 6th at London University, during which Wang
submitted a research report ―A Study of the List of Persian-Arabic Books in Mishujian
Zhi‖. After the conference, she was invited by University of Lausanne Switzerland to
translate Omar Khayyam‘s Rubaiyat into Chinese.
Born in 1966 in Guangdong Province, Wang Yidan received her master‘s degree on
Persian language in 1990 from PKU. She got the doctor‘s degree on Persian Literature
from Iran Teheran University in 1999. Since 2003, she has been the dean of Persian
Language Office of the Oriental Language Department of the School of Foreign
Languages, PKU, with a specialization in Iranian literature and history of cultural
relations between China and Iran in the 13th and 14th century.
