program starts

Peking University, Beijing, Sep. 21st, 2007: The seventh Stanford PKU-based
branch program started on September 21. Professor Min Weifang, Director of PKU
Administration Commission attended the opening ceremony as well as welcome
reception, and gave an address in Shao Yuan. Xia Hongwei, Executive Deputy
Director of the Office of International Relations of PKU, hosted the ceremony.
Prof. Min welcomed 12 Stanford students who engaged in the program on behalf of
PKU. He said that, Stanford PKU-based branch program is an important platform to
expand the area of cooperation and deepen the contents of exchange between two
universities. USA is the largest developed country in the world, while China is the
largest developing country. Both countries play influential roles in the world. Joint
effort on the forward match will benefit not only the people of both countries, but also
the whole world. In addition, Prof. Min encouraged the students to make full use of
this precious opportunity to learn professional knowledge and Chinese culture well,
and try to be goodwill messengers between China and USA.
Shen Xiaohong, Director of Stanford University Beijing office, appreciated the great
support and considerate arrangement of PKU. Pamula Hanse, professor of Stanford
University Management and Engineering, gave speech on behalf of program staff
and showed her gratification to work with PKU teachers and students. She expected
to cooperate with PKU professors in related research domains.
Student representatives from PKU and Stanford University made statements and
expressed their determination to make progress in future joint study.
