free trade agreement, President Susilo hopes to expand this agreement to have it<br />

include the service industry, and also to enforce investment cooperation in the<br />

agriculture, infrastructure extension and recourses areas to reach higher<br />

competitiveness and increase the added value resulting a win-win situation.<br />

Indonesia is working together to try to keep the Asian Pacific stability. This is vital<br />

because China is one <strong>of</strong> the most active economic bodies; Indonesia on the other<br />

hand is Southeast Asia‘s largest economic body, Susilo said. He pointed out that<br />

both countries should do their best in keeping their economic level so that they can<br />

help promote the economy in East Asia.<br />

Regarding foreign policies, President Susilo believes that China and Indonesia both<br />

claim nationalism while being open to accepting other cultures and principles.<br />

China‘s influence has started to spread to even South East Asia; this is an important<br />

turning point for Asia‘s geopolitics development. The Asian Era has come and<br />

Indonesia, like many other South East Asian countries, will be eager in responding to<br />

China‘s s<strong>of</strong>t power.<br />

Our world faces a whole new chain <strong>of</strong> problems, including; the gap between the rich<br />

and the poor, armed conflicts in different areas, subprime lending crisis, this all<br />

points to the world calling China and Indonesia as well as all the developing<br />

countries to construct a new world order.<br />

At the end <strong>of</strong> President Susilo‘s speech he also had an interactive Q & A with the<br />

students. He answered questions ranging from Indonesian politics, economy to<br />

traditional culture. Afterwards, President Xu Zhihong presented a souvenir to<br />

President Susilo, who left in roaring applauds. President Susilo‘s visit to <strong>PKU</strong> not<br />

only helped two different peoples understand each other better, but also moved the<br />

friendly relationship one further step ahead.<br />
