Ten <strong>PKU</strong> Students Attended "George<br />

Bush Sino-US Relations Seminar" in<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Nov. 13, 2007: Li Zhaoxing, the former Foreign Minister <strong>of</strong><br />

People's Republic <strong>of</strong> China and Li Xiaolin, vice president <strong>of</strong> Chinese People's<br />

Association for Friendship led a group <strong>of</strong> more than 100 members, including vice<br />

president Hai Wen and 10 students <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, to attend the third "George<br />

Bush Sino-US Relations Seminar" held in Washington, DC from October 22nd to<br />

25th.<br />

The Chinese representatives from government departments, colleges and<br />

universities, business community or the military, and the United States group<br />

composed by politicians, including 6 cabinet ministers in the Bush administration,<br />

academics and business people, attended the meeting discussing on bilateral<br />

relations and major events <strong>of</strong> common concern. The theme <strong>of</strong> the seminar was<br />

"development, energy and security", concerning focal topics with far-reaching<br />

influence on the development <strong>of</strong> the world, such as Sino-US relations, Asia-Pacific<br />

regional security, economic and trade cooperation, energy, sustainable development<br />

and so on.<br />

40 college students were invited by the organizers for the first time, 20 from China,<br />

half <strong>of</strong> which are from <strong>PKU</strong>, and 20 from United States. They could attend all forum<br />

sections and activities, dialogue with each other and tour the Pentagon and<br />

Washington. Moreover, they were invited to participate in the Capitol Hill banquets,<br />

face-to-face with famous politicians, and a special honor in the Chinese embassy in<br />

the United States. In most particular, all these 40 student representatives had the<br />

chance to meet former Foreign Minister <strong>of</strong> the People's Republic <strong>of</strong> China Li<br />

Zhaoxing and former United States President George Bush.<br />

The ten students <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> were Shen Zhiliang and Wu Yan from the School <strong>of</strong> Law, Le<br />

Hanning from the College <strong>of</strong> Urban and Environmental, Zhou Mi and Weike from the<br />

Guanghua School <strong>of</strong> Management, Chen Daizhuo from the Institute <strong>of</strong> Physics,<br />

Wang Dong from the School <strong>of</strong> Government's Management, Chen Xiaoshen from the<br />

Institute <strong>of</strong> International Relations, Chang Meng from the Department <strong>of</strong> Chinese<br />

Language and Literature and Chen Chen from the School <strong>of</strong> Economics. Hai Wen,<br />

vice president <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong> attended the section forum higher education, and delivered a<br />
