International Relations: Different Civilizations and International Relations<br />

International relations under a globalization context in the 21st century no doubt<br />

raises the hottest discussion and involves most global attention both in term <strong>of</strong><br />

academic studies and political arena. 28 scholars in this area opened sub-group in<br />

international relations <strong>of</strong> Beijing Forum and began their two days discussion over<br />

issues relating to international relations under different civilizations.<br />

Dr. Odtay F. Tanrisever, assist. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor from Middle East Technical <strong>University</strong><br />

illustrated his understanding <strong>of</strong> the relationship between multiculturalism and peace<br />

in the 21st century by study the promotion <strong>of</strong> inter-civilization dialogue and peace in<br />

international relations from perspectives <strong>of</strong> Turkey. His conclusion was that in<br />

context <strong>of</strong> globalization, the promotion <strong>of</strong> multiculturalism in the post-Cold War era is<br />

strengthening the basis for a peaceful international order in which various cultures<br />

could co-exist without threatening the survival <strong>of</strong> other cultures. Also from Middle<br />

East Technical <strong>University</strong>, Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Eyup Ozeren made a creative approach in<br />

discover the harmony <strong>of</strong> civilizations from a specific perspective <strong>of</strong> the Great Wall <strong>of</strong><br />

China. Of course the Great Wall here is used as a metaphor, by which Kafka<br />

re-works the relationships among the primordial concepts <strong>of</strong> ―civilization‖ and<br />

―empire‖. By exploring the relationship between ―empire‖, ―civilization‖ and hierarchy<br />

thereby arose, Ozveren drown conclusion as that the global spread <strong>of</strong> the<br />

market-system has a peculiar characteristic unique to each civilization.<br />

We are discussing about international relations under a new context <strong>of</strong> globalization<br />

because we are seeking for effective ways to a harmonious development that may<br />

free us from conflicts and misunderstanding. Join us in international relation<br />
