PKU Arts Ensemble will Present on
Tour in the USA

Peking University, Beijing, Dec 4th, 2004: On the night of December 1st, the
remarkable dance of Dai Nationality, ―by the river of lancang‖, performed by PKU
Arts Ensemble, served as a prelude to a rehearsal before they appear on the stage
in the USA.
According to Xu Zhihong, president of PKU, ―it is the first time that PKU Arts
Ensemble has set foot on North America. We are looking forward to arriving there
and promote communication and understanding between China and America with
arts, the language without national boundaries.‖ Xu Zhihong is invited to lead PKU
Arts Ensemble to go on a eleven-day visit to the USA as well as give a performance
at Columbia University, Stanford University, the university of Maryland, Cornell
University as well as Yale University on January 27th, 2005.
There will be a lot of brilliant programmes on show in the USA from dances with
national characteristics to elegant performances of chamber music; from vigorous
and forceful Sichuan folk songs to gentle and soft English songs. What is more, there
are male chorus and group dance‖ the Olympics at PKU‖, which provide deep insight
into the distinguishing features of PKU.
Furthermore, Xu Zhihong will have discussions on essential issues such as
undergraduate education, discipline research and summer school, with the
authorities concerned in Columbia University, Stanford University, the university of
Maryland, Cornell University as well as Yale University. In addition, he is expected to
deliver a speech entitled ―Chinese economic development, Chinese higher education
and Peking University‖ at the University of Maryland, during which he will make
interactive contacts with American students.
