PKU Team Awarded for Excellent
Service in 2008 Olympics and

Peking University, Oct, 13, 2008: The Summation and Commendation Conference of
the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games was held
on September 29 by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC)
and the State Council. The PKU Gymnasium Crew and the PKU Olympic Volunteer
Crew were awarded ―The Advanced Unit for Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic
Games‖, and Wu Wenhan, Chief Physician of PKU First Hospital and Medical
Manager of the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium Crew, was awarded ―The
Advanced Person for Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games‖.
The PKU Gymnasium Crew was set up on March 2007. In the preparing progress, all
the crew members had done their best to make sure every detail and aspect in order
to make a solid foundation for the table tennis matches to be held successfully in the
Olympic Games. During the Olympics, the Chinese National Anthem was played four
times and three Five-starred Red Flags of China raised simultaneously twice in the
PKU Gymnasium. The table tennis athletes of China have created a miracle in this
Olympic Games. Many CPC members and national leaders of China, the
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge, the International
Paralympic Committee President Sir Philip Craven and many national leaders from
different countries watched the games in this gymnasium. The excellent work of the
PKU Gymnasium Team was highly evaluated by central leaders, IOC officials,
athletes, media and audiences as well.
PKU was the main university to supply general volunteers for National Stadium, PKU
Gymnasium and the Haidian Gymnasium, and it also supplied professional
volunteers on the fields of media operations, language services, visitant
accompaniments, medical services, doping controls and drivers as well. During the
Olympics and the Paralympics, PKU had organized more than two thousand different
kinds of volunteers to work for the smooth running of the Games. And their warm,
sincere services have won praises from different parts of the society.
As the medical manager of the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium Crew, Dr. Wu
Wenhan successfully completed the medical security work in the opening and
closing ceremonies of the Olympics together with his term members. And his work
