Executive Global Public Policy<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, June 2nd, 2006: BHP Billiton, the world's largest<br />

diversified resource company, joined hands today with <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> in a new<br />

training program for Chinese senior civil servants. Through the agreement signed at<br />

a ceremony today on the <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus, BHP Billiton will contribute<br />

about eight million Yuan (US,000,000) over five years to <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and will<br />

share its knowledge and experience in public policy-related areas by addressing<br />

such issues as sustainable development and workplace health and safety in mining<br />

industry to supplement the curriculum <strong>of</strong> the program.<br />

Mr. Chen Wenshen, the Executive Vice President <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Mr. Fu Jun,<br />

Executive Dean <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Government <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Ms. Deng Ya,<br />

Secretary-General <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> Education Foundation and Mr. Clinton Dines,<br />

President <strong>of</strong> BHP Billiton China completed the <strong>of</strong>ficial signing <strong>of</strong> the agreement.<br />

―BHP Billiton is pleased to have the opportunity to join hands with the prestigious<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> to sponsor this important initiative. We have had business<br />

relationships in China for more than 100 years and we feel it is important to also<br />

openly share our global knowledge and experience in areas that could make a<br />

contribution to effective public policy formulation in the future,‖ said Clinton Dines,<br />

President <strong>of</strong> BHP Billiton China.<br />

―China attaches great importance to enhancing the capabilities <strong>of</strong> government<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficials in the area <strong>of</strong> public policy making and implementation. This Executive<br />

Global Public Policy Training Program represents an effort to draw upon best<br />

international models both in theory and practice. We appreciate BHP Billiton‘s<br />

support through funding and knowledge-sharing as a sponsor <strong>of</strong> this initiative. We<br />

believe that our cooperation will yield great results for the program participants,‖ said<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Fu Jun <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Government at <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> and chief<br />

coordinator <strong>of</strong> this multilateral international program.<br />

The Executive Global Public Policy Program will initially run for five years, with each<br />
