Committee holds 10th meeting

Peking University, Nov. 4, 2008: The 10th meeting of the ―Jun-Tsung Fund‖
Management Committee was held in the Press Hall of the Yingjie Exchange Center
at Peking University at 9 o'clock on October 29. Tsung-Dao Lee, a Physics Nobel
Prize winner and a professor at Columbia University, Xu Zhihong, President of
Peking University, Ye Mingquan, Vice President of Tsinghua University in Hsinchu,
Taiwan, Cai Dafeng, Vice President of Fudan University, Li Hengbin, Deputy
Secretary of the Party of Lanzhou University, Tang Zongming, Director of
Educational Administration of Suzhou University, guests from Chinese Center for
Advanced Science and Technology and representatives of "―Jun-Tsung scholars"
attended the meeting, which was chaired by Li Ke‘an, Deputy Director of Educational
Administration of Peking University.
"Jun-Tsung Fund" was established by Tsung-Dao Lee and his relatives to
commemorate his late wife Qin Huijun. The annual fund funds 30 research projects
of sophomores, with the requirement of at least 50% of those should be girls. Funded
students should make use of two summer vacations and the third year of their
college life to do research under the guidance of their advisors. The fund has
supported a total of 1654 undergraduates from 5 universities, including Peking
University, Fudan University, Lanzhou University, Suzhou University and Tsinghua
University in Taiwan, since its establishment from 1998.
Many activities were held during the meeting, including research reports presented
by representatives of "Jun-Tsung scholars", a speech delivered by Tsung-Dao Lee,
meetings of "Jun-Tsung fund" management committee and academic exchanges of
"Jun-Tsung Scholars".
