<strong>北京大学</strong>英语新闻网/<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>News</strong><br />
progress since it put forward the grand strategy <strong>of</strong> building a world-class top<br />
university in 1998 and an area <strong>of</strong> booming development can be expected in the near<br />
future. Besides the substantial support from the government, the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>University</strong> depends more on the bounteous support from all circles <strong>of</strong> the society<br />
while alumni makes the most precious intellectual and financial resource. <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> will attach even greater importance to regulating and enhancing the work<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong>EF and <strong>PKU</strong>AA to grantee that we agglomerate each and every force to<br />
facilitate the development <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>. Pr<strong>of</strong>. Hai‘s speech proved both<br />
informative and encouraging to alumni abroad.<br />
Alumni Associations in North America introduced their major activities and recent<br />
development. Due to different regions and careers, those associations held varieties<br />
<strong>of</strong> activities and the conference provided a smooth platform for further<br />
communication and exchange. Since the establishment <strong>of</strong> North California and<br />
Southern California <strong>PKU</strong> Alumni Association in 1985, 12 regional alumni<br />
associations have been established consecutively in the United States. They are<br />
<strong>PKU</strong>AA <strong>of</strong> Michigan, <strong>PKU</strong>AA <strong>of</strong> Hawaii, Houston Alumni Association, Chicago<br />
Alumni Association, Washington DC Alumni Association, Philadelphia Alumni<br />
Association, New York Alumni Association, New England Alumni Association, Yale<br />
<strong>University</strong> Alumni Association, San Diego Alumni Association, BMUAA <strong>of</strong> South<br />
California (Beiyi), South California Alumni Association and North California Alumni<br />
Association.<br />
The second day‘s conference took the form <strong>of</strong> group discussion. Topics include how<br />
to further promote pr<strong>of</strong>ound communication between alumni associations in North<br />
America, how to complete the organizational construction <strong>of</strong> associations in other<br />
regions, how to enhance the website construction <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong>AAs in North America and<br />
how to unite the alumni to contribute more to the alma mater.<br />
Vice President Hai Wen listened carefully to the comments and suggestions and<br />
made a concluding speech. He said: ―we will carefully study and solve the questions<br />
gathered at this conference, continuously improve and promote service to alumni.<br />
And we hope <strong>PKU</strong>AAs enhance the communication between alumni in each area,<br />
carry forward the fine traditions <strong>of</strong> Beida, and contribute more to the great cause <strong>of</strong><br />
building Beida into a world-class university. ‖<br />
All delegates attended the banquet held by Mr. Zhou Wenzhong, China ambassador<br />
to the USA on Dec. 4th. Ambassador Zhou expressed ardent expectations to <strong>Peking</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> Alumni Associations in his speech. ― I hope <strong>PKU</strong>AAs contact and serve<br />
more local alumni, make continuous contributions to <strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>‘s strategy <strong>of</strong><br />
world-class university and make outstanding and unique influence to the<br />
communication and friendship between the two countries.‖<br />
