ITTF Chairman Sharara visits PKU

Peking University, Beijing, Apr. 25th, 2007: On April 21st 2007, Chairman of the
International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Adham Sharara visited Peking
University, inspecting the construction work of the Olympic table tennis building and
discussing with PKU leaders on the ITTF cooperation with PKU to set up a Research
Institute of international table tennis.
Chairman Sharara was satisfied with the training courses program provided by PKU,
hoping that the program could be implemented soon. He also discussed in depth
with the PKU side on details of funding, intelligence support, organization structure,
etc. of the future Table Tennis Research Institution.
At 8:00 am, Chairman Sharara and his companies first came to the opening
ceremony of the ―2007 Peking University Games‖ where he delivered a speech,
reminding PKU students that ―daily physical exercising is as important as brain
training‖.
Later in the morning, the Chairman took part in a special forum with vice president
Yue Sulan and vice president Ju Chuanjin of PKU. On the forum, PKU leaders
promised to the Chairman that the Ping-Pong Olympic Coliseum of PKU would be
put into use in due time and with due quality. The chairman‘s concern of and
assistance to the construction of the Ping-Pong Building was highly appreciated, and
further cooperation between the two sides was expected for the good promotion of
the sport. Heads of some relevant departments of PKU including the Office of
Foreign relations attended this forum.
Before leaving PKU, Mr. Sharara, the former member of Canadian national
Ping-Pong team wound up his visit by playing Ping-Pong with Chinese middle school
students in No.1 Gymnasium of PKU, where the 2007 "PKU--Founder Cup" Schools
Table Tennis Tournament was on show.
The visit was accompanied by officers from ITTF, Chinese Table Tennis Association
and General Administration of Sport of China.
