In response to globalization, Reinfeldt noted, our responsibility must encompass
many aspects. ―Tackling social exclusion and unemployment, encouraging
entrepreneurship, ensuring that families can exercise control over their everyday life,
ensuring that knowledge is something available to many and not just to a few, these I
believe are the keys to make your society hold together,‖ Reinfeldt said, ―they are
also the main features of the social model in Sweden.‖
Reinfeldt viewed the Olympic Games as a good example of China‘s globalization
because it brings people together not only in competition, but also in personal
meeting and interaction. ―The Olympics is about sports, but it is also about
international exchange,‖ Reinfeldt said, ―I hope that the Game will be a success in a
true spirit of international cooperation.‖
Finally, Reinfeldt pointed out that the relationship between China and Sweden has
developed quite rapidly since China launched its policy of reform and opening up. ―In
the last few years, we have state visits in all directions. Sweden was the first western
country to establish diplomatic relation with the People‘s Republic of China. Today,
there are 3000 Chinese students and researchers at Swedish universities. There are
more than 500 Swedish companies with cooperation in China. Every fourth day, a
new Swedish company sets up its business in China. We hope we would be able to
further strengthen the ties between our two countries in trade, in exchange of
knowledge and common issues such as fighting global warming.‖
Reinfeldt is on his first official visit to China from April 12 to 15, becoming the first
Swedish prime minister to visit China since 1996. The main topics on his agenda, he
said, were climate change and sustainable development. His 4-day visit to China
began in Hainan where he took part in the ―Boao Forum for Asia‖ and met with
Chinese President Hu Jintao. He will hold talks with Chinese Prime Minister Wen
Jiabao later today.
