Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Yu Kongjian Wins the Gold<br />

Prize <strong>of</strong> the Tenth National Fine Arts<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, Dec 10th, 2004: The award-giving ceremony <strong>of</strong> the tenth<br />

National Fine Arts Exhibition was held in Chinese Art Gallery on Dec 10th. Li Tieying<br />

and He Luli, Vice-chairman <strong>of</strong> Standing Committee <strong>of</strong> the People‘s Congress, and<br />

Sun Jiazheng, minister <strong>of</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> Culture, gave out the awards to the prize<br />

winners. Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Yu Kongjian <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong>‘s Sight Design Research Center got a gold<br />

prize for designing Qi Jiang Park <strong>of</strong> Zhongshan City.<br />

The National Fine Arts Exhibition is held every five years, sponsored by Ministry <strong>of</strong><br />

Culture and Chinese Artists‘ Association. And it is the biggest and most important<br />

arts and design competition <strong>of</strong> the national level. There are about 3200 pieces works<br />

on exhibition and 350 excellent ones are picked out for the Beijing Chinese Fine Arts<br />

Exhibition in the end <strong>of</strong> December. 18 pieces works in the field <strong>of</strong> Chinese painting,<br />

oil painting, water color painting, design, clothes design and pottery are awarded<br />

Gold Prizes.<br />

The exhibition were held in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Guangzhou,<br />

Chuangchun, Shantou, Shenzhen and Nanjing successively since Aug 19th. As early<br />

as the opening ceremony <strong>of</strong> the Exhibition in Shanghai, Qi Jiang Park designed by<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Yu was looked up as the likely prize winner. When the result came out,<br />

that was accord to everybody‘s expectation.<br />
