High-class Seminar Opens

Peking University, Beijing, April 11th, 2007: Hosted by the Overseas Chinese Affairs
Office of the State Council of China, China Overseas Exchanges Association and
Peking University, the opening ceremony for the 4th Overseas Chinese Entrepreneur
China Economy High-class Seminar was held in Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center,
Peking University, on the morning of April 9th. 37 entrepreneurs of Chinese descents
from over ten countries such as Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore,
Thailand, Brunei, Britain and USA, gathered in Beijing to watch China from a new
perspective.
On the opening ceremony, Prof. Yang He, Vice Director of Council of Peking
University and Madam Li Haifeng, Vice Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs
Office of the State Council of China (OCAOSCC), as well as Tan Tianxing, the Vice
Director of Economics and Technology Department of OCAOSCC made speeches
respectively. The ceremony was chaired by Executive Vice Director of Office of
International Relations of Peking University, Xia Weihong .
The Seminar has been highly heeded by high-level officials of the government. State
Councilor Tang Jiaxuan had met with participants of previous Seminars and
expressed his hope that the Seminar would become a prestigious brand among the
overseas Chinese entrepreneurs circle. In the training course provided as part of the
Seminar, the trainees will discuss the governmental, judicial, economic issues of
China in the lectures given by renowned scholars of PKU and officials in different
departments of Chinese government. Then participants will travel over the country to
do field researches to get first hand observation and experience. The trainees will
also promote the cooperation relations among the overseas Chinese entrepreneurs
during the Seminar. This training pattern, aiming to acquaint the entrepreneurs with
the situation and latest developments of China and to encourage trade with China
and investment in the mainland is highly appreciated by the participants.
On the night before the opening ceremony, a welcome banquet was held in
Shaoyuan Guest House, Peking University. The President Assistant of Peking
University, Li Yansong, and Tan Tianxing, the Vice Director of Economics and
Technology Department of OCAOSCC attended the banquet and gave speeches.
