<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, September 24, 2007: In celebration <strong>of</strong> the 35th<br />

anniversary <strong>of</strong> normalization <strong>of</strong> relations between China and Japan, a recital <strong>of</strong><br />

poems by Daisaku Ikeda was held at <strong>PKU</strong> Hall on Sept 22.<br />

The recital is a visual-audio feast <strong>of</strong> high taste, featuring a large crew <strong>of</strong> performers<br />

including Dedema, a famous alto singer from Inner Mongolia, national famous<br />

performer and broadcaster Ren Zhihong and Xiao Yu, as well as students from <strong>PKU</strong><br />

Recital Association.<br />

This activity received great support from <strong>PKU</strong> Youth League Committee and Beijing<br />

Office <strong>of</strong> Soka <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Japan.<br />

Daisaku Ikeda is a Buddhist philosopher, an educator and a prolific writer and poet.<br />

As president <strong>of</strong> the Soka Gakkai International (SGI) lay Buddhist movement, he has<br />

devoted himself to wide-ranging efforts for peace and individual empowerment, and<br />

has founded cultural, educational and peace research institutions around the world.<br />

For nearly four decades, Mr. Ikeda has consistently promoted friendly relations<br />

between Japan and China. He has visited China on ten occasions and on his second<br />

visit, in December 1974, he met with Zhou Enlai, shortly before the Chinese<br />

premier's death.<br />

Ikeda has delivered speeches at a number <strong>of</strong> institutions <strong>of</strong> higher learning around<br />

the world including Harvard <strong>University</strong> and the Institute de France. He has visited<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> for three times.<br />
