Peking University, Beijing, April 19th, 2006: The first bunch of books donated by
Greek Aonaxisi Foundation reached the School of Arts of Peking University recently.
This is the first time universities in Asia received donated books from Greece in such
a large scale.
The first bunch consists of 114 books whose total worth adds up to about 100,000
RMB, mostly focusing on classical Greek arts, including Greek humanities,
archaeology, thoughts and culture, geography, architecture, aesthetics, etc.
As the origin of western civilization, Greek research has long been emphasized by
western academicians. Besides classical research documents, some
lately-published Greek research works are also included in the donation list this time,
which undoubtedly provide us with priceless first-hand materials to catch up with the
most recent development on Greek research.
Alexander Aonaxisi Foundation, founded by the Greek Ship King Aonaxisi Family, is
the largest and richest commonweal organization in Greece. It is always dedicated to
the culture boosting and public projects, encouraging and supporting scholars from
all over the world to do Greek research from various aspects. The organization is
strict in choosing the object of their donation and had never made donation to
universities in Asian areas before. The valuable donation this time will not only make
new opportunity for Sino-Greece culture and arts communication, but also push
forward Greek Research in China. With the approaching of 2008 Olympic Games, to
learn more about Greece will also facilitate the culture development of China.
Besides the first bunch, the rest of donated books will arrive in succession.
