Establishment <strong>of</strong> <strong>PKU</strong>-Griffith International Center <strong>of</strong> Population, Health, Environment and Development<br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong>, Beijing, June 1st, 2006: <strong>PKU</strong>-Griffith International Center <strong>of</strong><br />

Population, Health, Environment and Development was established at <strong>Peking</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> at 11:00 a.m. May 30th, 2006.<br />

The Center was co-established by the Population Research Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>Peking</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> and Griffith <strong>University</strong> Australia, dedicated to the academic research in<br />

environment, population health, procreation health and the cooperation in estimation<br />

and evaluation.<br />

<strong>PKU</strong> was one <strong>of</strong> the universities which first carried out population research in China.<br />

In 1991, it was recognized as WHO Procreation Health and Population Studies<br />

Research Center. Then in 1992, sponsored by UNFPA and WHO, the Institute<br />

established the training center in which foreign students could get master degree in<br />
