Peking University, Beijing, March 28th, 2006: Recently, good news came from
Canada that the undergraduates from Guang Hua School of Management (GSM),
Peking University won the third prize in the 2006 McGill Management International
Case Competition. It‘s the first time for students from GSM as well as students of all
Chinese business schools to have won a prize in major international case
competitions.
This year's competition began on the morning of March 25th.After the cases were
handed out to each team, in the following 24 hours the contestants were ―locked‖
separately in rooms of a hotel and thus lost touch with their coaches. After 24 hours,
every team was required to submit its analytic report, and give a presentation no
longer than 25 minutes, followed by the Q&A section. The judge team consisted of
11 senior directors from local banks and giant corporations. To ensure the fairness of
the competition, the judges were divided into two groups. Every team should report
to both groups and finally the two groups will have a discussion to determine the
winners of the first three prizes.
On the evening of March 26th, after two and a half hour‘s discussion, the judges
finally decided that the team from University of THAMMAST in Thailand, University
of Aukland in New Zealand and Peking University in China won the first three prizes
respectively.
The team from Peking University consists of Luo Jiayuan, Guan Yue, Huang
Zhaoying, Zhang Man, all of which are undergraduates. These players were chosen
after selection in 2005 when the leader of GSM decided to organize a team to take
part in this competition. Since October of 2005, they have received a series of tough
trainings on cases analysis.
As one of the most important international case competitions, this is the sixth time
that McGill held this competition. The participant teams are from twelve business
schools all around the world, including University of California at Berkeley, University
