<strong>PKU</strong> <strong>News</strong>, Beijing, Aug 23th, 2004:The opening ceremony <strong>of</strong> Beijing Forum was<br />

held in the Great Hall <strong>of</strong> the People this morning. Former Vice-Premier Qian Qichen,<br />

Princess <strong>of</strong> Kingdom <strong>of</strong> Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Vice-Mayor <strong>of</strong> Beijing<br />

Municipal Government Zhu Shanlu, Secretary General <strong>of</strong> the Korea Foundation for<br />

Advanced Studies <strong>of</strong> Korea Kim Jae-youl attended the ceremony. The Secretary<br />

General <strong>of</strong> the United Nations K<strong>of</strong>i Annan sent an congratulation message to the<br />

forum to express his warm wishes. The ceremony attracted 120 media from both<br />

domestic and overseas.<br />

The ceremony was divided into two parts. From 9:30 to 10:20, several special guests<br />

including Zhu Shanlu, Qian Qichen, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Kim Jae-youl<br />

and 1999 Nobel Prize Laureate Robert A. Mundell delivered speeches. Chairman <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Peking</strong> <strong>University</strong> Council Min Weifang gave warm welcome to the coming guests.<br />

Former Vice-Premier Qian Qichen put forward several points to deal with the<br />

international relation in the new century.<br />
